Our kitten sits atop the TV facing the wall allowing her tail to swing to and fro in front of the screen. I'm not one for anthropomorphising too much, so doubt it's done with mischievous intent, but wondered if she experiences any static charges through her tail while she is irritating me?

I knew I should have put this question in science. What a twit!

hi Drusilla,

one of mine does it when i sit at the computer, and i spend more time removing her than i do typing.....im sure they do it on purpose....i hope you have not got a plasma tv...as i have to grab my pc screen as its thin coz scrappy lunges at it..

The cats can't understand why (when they are awake) they are not the centre of your attention. So, they see you concentrating on TV, computer, book, sex or whatever, and want to intervene. The TV trick is a feline double reward as the vantage point is warm and cosy. They soon realise that you can't stand the tail in front of the screen and give out the "Oh puss you naughty thing. Who's a lovable puss then?" whilst removing them. Puss will go on to repeat the exercise to remind you what you really should be concentrating on.

Solution:
Put piece of cardboard on top of TV with a small hole near the edge of the card. Tie string through hole and let it drape down side of set. Puss jumps up and comes to rest on card. You pull string slowly to one side and eventually puss gets that unsteady feeling and a nanosecond before falling from the collapsing card at the side of the TV jumps down. Repeat until puss associates top of TV with journeys into oblivion and stops it.
