What's a Daddy Long Legs?

I always thought a Daddy Long Legs was another name for a Crane fly, but in the article about spiders on here, its says its a kind of spider? Anyone know?

Thanks Tartanwizard. Yup, i know the spider you mean... body the size of a Money spider but huge long thin legs! Yuck! Ive always known them as Harvest Spiders too.
I always thought it was that giant flying mosquito that hangs around at the corners of the ceiling. Is that a 'crane fly'?
In the states I believe the daddy longlegs is the name given to a nasty little spider which is extremely venomous, but it's fangs are not strong enough to puncture human skin.
