I treated my cat for fleas only 5 days ago but tonight I found a live flea when I was brushing him, should I treat him again although the treatment (Advantage) says only every 4 weeks.

Advocate is my brand of choice. If it's not on prescription I don't buy it and Advantage is not on prescription. If you google it you will see it is no longer working for many; it's gone the same way as Front Line which stopped working for many cats as the fleas get used to it. I highly recommend Advocate. If your home is infested you need R.I.P. spray and spray...

Its not enough to treat the cat, you need to treat the whole house. don't treat with Advantage again, its MUCH too soon.
We used Advantage on our four cats a fortnight ago. No problems since.

What I don't get is I treat him all year winter and summer so how come these pesscy blighters are on him, should I change to a different brand.
We used to use Frontline then found it ineffective. Saw a programme on TV about fake products coming into the country one off them was Frontline, so we switched to Advantage.
Have you tried the plugs-ins?

If your home is infested you need R.I.P. spray and spray everywhere the cat goes, cushions, in between floorboards literally everywhere.

Plug ins ummmm, are they any good?

Ladybirder, I was thinking the same about Advantage, I buy it off the tinterweb, so perhaps I am getting duff stuff.
Curvy not necessarily. The good/real/genuine stuff is no good anymore for some but not all cats as some fleas have adapted to it. It is an absolute pain when that happens as you think your cat is OK but by the time you find out it isn't, your house is full of fleas which are an expensive nightmare to get rid of. Good luck with it, I've been there, I know:-(
And thank you for BA. xx
Like LB says...get yourself some R.I.P. spray from Amazon or...my choice...VioVet. I also get Advantage from them. It still seems to work...but it does take awhile to get all fleas. Depends what stage they are in the life cycle.
Frankie (and his dearly departed sister) are indoor cats and have not had any flea treatments.

I talked it over with his Vet and she agreed with everything the others have said about Fleas gaining immunity to the chemicals in the supermarket type products.

Good luck with the de-fleaing of your cat. :-)
My vet is using new drugs (originally we had a once monthly for fleas or whatever) and a three-monthly for worms etc (if I've got it the right way round).

The new treatments for ticks and fleas and for worms aquote[both] 3-monthly: Bravecto for the first and Profender for the second.
