I feel awful so please don't make me feel worse! My cocker spaniel's fur gets really shaggy and knotty and while cutting a matt from her ear (she does go to the groomers but it grows really fast) I accidently cut her ear! Ohmigod I feel terrible! She only flinched, bless her, as she is a very quiet placid dog by nature and is now 11. I wouldn't hurt her on purpose for the world. Anyway, this was two days ago and I'm keeping it cleaned and bathed and applied Savlon. Is there anything special I should put on it or is it better just to bathe it? It's not bothering her at the moment. Thank you.

Obviously you are distressed, but you must remind yourself that this was a pure accident, caused as you tried to help your dog. I doubt dogs have a developed sense of anger, but if she did, you can be sure your dog would appreciate the circumstances, and not think badly of you.

If her cut appears to be healing - is not weeping or scabby. then just bathe it, and keep an eye on it. If her hear hasn't healed after a few days, get your vet to have a look.

Don't worry, your dog has probaby already forgotten this incident and moved on - you should try and join her.

thank you Andy- that's very kind. She's a rescue and doesn't have an angry bone in her body- I think she just accepts everthing that happens to her. Kind regards.
It was an accident, but if she tends to get matted, perhaps you might think of buying a slicker brush. They are excellent for getting tangles out without hurting your dog. I use one on mine as their ears tend to get knotty.
accidents happen. I remember once I was clipping my dog's nails. He heard something and turned away and I pinched his claw rather than cut it, no blood but it must have hurt like shutting your finger in a draw. He turned tound and snapped (only time ever) and caught my wrist...blood everywhere. He was so sorry he had hurt me and I was so sorry that I had hurt him. Give her a hug and a treat, she won't like to see you upset.
I know what you mean my cavalier gets really matted ears where they dip in her water and get dragged everywhere, miracle i havent nipped her, but to make you feel better (and me worse) i nipped my sons ear whilest cutting his hair, needless to say he has never let me forget this, be thankful the dog cant talk !!!!!! i expect shes forgotten it already, just keep an eye on it that it does get an infection under the skin.
