Some sprays are much better than others.

Those available from vets' surgeries are often far more effective than the ones sold in pet stores. Better still, seek out a place which sells equine accessories and buy the stuff that's used in stables. (It's TOTALLY effective but it's ESSENTIAL to read the safety advice on the can first - which might, for example, require the family to leave the house for a few hours after it's been applied - if it's to be used in a domestic environment).
i'd get someone professional to come out and spray the place properly.

don't get the stuff from the supermarket, its rubbish - last time i needed it, i got indorex from amazon which worked a treat

She needs to do more than spray the edges. She needs to get the serious stuff, something like this. and use it according to instructions.

I am curious though, is this a purchase or a rental? If its a rental then I would be complaining to the landlord, if a purchase, did she view and how did she not come out bitten to bits? Is she sure its fleas and sure they were left behind?
You can get a room burst spray that has loads of very fine powder in it and when you set it off, and vacate the room(s) - you leave it in the room for a certain length of time, and it kills them all. It's called a flea smoke bomb or something - readily available at the likes of B and Q and such. We've done it once and it worked.
When I bought my first house it turned out that it had fleas. One won't necessarily see evidence on a couple of look around before purchase.

Luckily as it was my first house I could remain with my parents' whilst I sorted things out. In this case it was umpteen cans of spray (had a coughing fit in almost every room as I sprayed away) and then left the house for a day or two. When I went back the problem was history.
I know supermarket fly and wasp spray isnt good to breathe in, bit I would spray every inch of every room, corners, in beds, sofas, anywhere they can creep ... You will need a can for each room. Then go out for a while so you dont breathe it in. When you come home open all the windows for a while. This should help. Good luck.
woofgangs recommendation is excellent, as is Indorex fleaspray.

Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation

One can should do a whole house, the effects lasting up to 6 months.

Don't buy anything over the counter...it won't work.
OG, if you look around house with fleas in it, you will get bitten....at least I will!
I didn't. In fact the first time I found them it was because I saw that I had some on my clothes, and I got out (unbitten) feeling very creeped out by it at the time.
Woofgang and pastafreak have it. RIP is excellent. Used properly you won't have to pay someone to come out. But spray it everywhere, into all cracks in floors, skirting boards and over all soft furnishings including curtains cushions carpets and all bedding, everywhere. And whatever you do don't try and do it on the cheap, it won't work.

Thankyou to you all... the spray RIP do you have to live the house for a few hours or is it safe to carry on being there.? Also one of our granddaughters suffers from asthma... will it ok?
I believe the Indorex suggests opening a window and leaving a room for about 15 minutes.
I don't know if it's the same where you live but in some areas the local council will do it for you.

From Woofgang's link:
"Once each room has been sprayed, open the windows, leave the room and ventilate for at least 1 hour before reintroducing pets or children. Spray mist should have settled and surfaces should be dry to the touch"

Once there's nothing left in the air there shouldn't be any problem with regard to asthma.
