I asked around and have found 2 x two week old parti-colour dog puppies - one blue roan and one orange roan. If I get notified of any bitch puppies I will let you know or you can contact me via email (in OD breed notes).

Well, an orange roan bitch would have been perfect! It's the rule, isn't it ? Yes, please let me know on here if you find some bitch(es), either now or in prospect. I chose the wrong breed , if I ever have any preferences on colour ! There must some thirty recognised. Bad enough, that colours are named for each breed (blue Bedlingtons, mustard Dandies, buff American cockers etc) without varieties of, for example, roan and then dark and light versions of those in cockers.

Prefer not to have solid colours, and prefer light colours to dark. But it has to be a bitch.Thanks.
Oh, lovely. You're getting a new dog. How nice is that!
What is OD breed notes, lankeela?

I write the breed notes in Our Dogs newspaper for Lancashire Heelers, my contact details are in every week.
Do you do those delightfully detailed critiques of dogs shown recently which are such a feature of so many breed show reports, lankeela? Reading some is like entering a different world, in the minutiae of breed virtues and faults

Anyway, thanks again and I shall look.
And in the meantime dogs are languishing in dogs homes all over the country because there just aren't enough homes to go round, but hey the breeders go on breeding irrespective of this and bringing yet more dogs into an already overpopulated world - amazing !!!!
viv, breeders wouldn't breed dogs if there wasn't a market for the pups. My own case is an example; I have already contacted over thirty breeders, all with cocker pups, and have so far found only three bitch pups, and those are with number 29!

That dogs end up in dogs' homes is down to the owners, not the breeders

My breed is a Vulnerable Native Breed with only around 100 being registered each year and a waiting list for puppies. As breed rescue co-ordinator I spend a great deal of time matching waiting homes with the few rescue (usually crossbreeds) that we get in, and we also contact all breed rescues if we hear of anything that vaguely resembles our breed. Not everyone wants or is capable of taking on a rescue dog, and our breeders all adhere to a code of ethics and club rules which is more than can be said for puppy farmers who willingly sell puppies as Christmas presents - the throwouts have already started so why not vent your anger at those instead of people who care deeply about their chosen breeds.

Fred I have a friend with a black bitch puppy in north Norfolk if no luck elsewhere.

My critique for Driffield should be in next weeks Our Dogs if you are interested! Heelers and German Shepherds. For me its one of the best parts of judging but sadly many don't bother to do them or they are not worth the paper they are printed on.
We had a mastiff critique from Jack Bispham for George that would bring tears to your eyes. Never seen any critique for any dog like that one. Lankeela you are right though, I've read critiques where the judge has clearly mixed up the dogs

My favourite phrase was from Albert Wight who wrote about my Heeler ' he was on the tiptoe of expectation' - and gave him the DCC!
Thanks for the help. I have found a golden bitch, now 3 weeks, that looks a very nice dog. (In so far as you can tell at that age, which is not much viz. her mouth looks all right and she has got the right number of toes :-) !) Of course, having searched everywhere from Scotland to Cornwall, the pup was only fifty miles away, such is the perversity in these matters.

Next challenges : a Bolognese for the daughter and a Dane for a friend. The friend likes harlequin Danes. At least the Bolognese only comes in a limited range of colours, like Henry Ford's cars. I should charge for this service, when I help others. The buyer has to see the pup and pass the interview, so all I am doing is narrowing the field a lot ; it is not as though I can do everything. But I have been advising and doing it for years, because word gets around, and I do feel I help the pup, by making clear to potential owners what breed suits and doesn't and making sure they are suited to one.
