Irresponsible Dog Owners

Prompted by another thread, I have decided to stick my head above the parapet. I don't like dogs, but each to their own. What does irk me is dog owners who let their mutts off the leash and then cannot understand why I am less than delighted to have their beloved pet jump up at me, drool on me, sniff inappropriate areas of my body and on one occasion pee on my leg. In recent years one of my children was knocked to the ground by a large dog, one very wet dog ran out of the sea and slap into the middle of our beach picnic and the worst incident was when a large dog ran at one of my kids who ran into the road to escape it and was knocked down by a car.
Time and time again I either hear peals of laughter from the owner as they utter the words "He just wants to play/he wouldn't harm a fly/he has never done that before."
I am not having a go at dog owners per se.
Please keep them on a leash and away from other people.
I will now sit back while the abuse flows in.

Morning O!

Morning shoota. Feel free to start the abuse rolling xx
totally agree with you, mrs o, and we have three, and none of them get to behave like those you have encountered and would be mortified if any of them did, and in the case of the current story, I'd probably blame the owners, not the dog.
I agree to a point - I have no problems with dogs being off a leash (in a park or countryside or whatever, not next to the main road) but they should be well controlled and come when the owner calls; I too am not a fan of dogs (unless I know them) and I don't appreciate them bounding up to me or sniffing round me regardless of what fly they would or would not hurt.
Agree entirely Mrs Overtrousers.

As a (I hope) responsible dog owner, I hate it when bloody great slavering beasts come & molest either me or my dogs.

I'm not keen on their dogs either ...
I have a dog but I agree with you.
However some folk do like having a little contact with her in passing and I always say, "Do you want to say hello?"
Older peeps and other dog owners especially enjoy it.
I agree with you Mrs O. I live near a large park that lots of people use for dog walking. It used to really annoy me when a dog, the same size as my daughter, would come bounding towards her and frighten her. the dog owner would laugh and say dont worry he wont hurt you... I'm 5'8" and if a dog the same size as me came running at me, I'd scream the place down!!

And don't get me started on
1. piles of dog poo on the street
2. small yappy dogs that seem to have a magnetic attraction to my ankles
Couldn't agree more, mrs overload.
I love dogs with a passion but agree with everything you've said.
Mind you, I dislike people who let their kids run up to strange dogs to pet them without asking first.

Blimey, I am astounded that so many of you (responsible) dog owners agree with me.
I honestly thought I would be shot down in flames
I'm a dog lover too, but also agree with you. Sometimes, owners give dogs a bad name!
Mrs overkill, I have just asked Daisy ( our cat ) and she also totally agrees with you.
No abuse from me....during a cliff walk in a remote area two large off the leash dogs bounded towards us, jumped up and left long scratch marks down MrG's right arm......had it been his left arm it would have torn through his fistula.

When I explained the life and death importance of a fistula to a person on dialysis..... the owners smiled and assured me the dogs meant no harm...
Well that's okay then.....

Morning MrsO...x
I entirely concur Mrs overspill.

I am a dog lover, but I recall the time in our local park when someone's huge slavering dog galloped over to 'play' with my two-year-old daughter. As I held my screaming child over my head to keep her away from the 'playful' dog leaping up to get to her, the owner advised he that he 'won't hurt' love.

That's as maybe, I replied, but I will, and if you don't call your dog off, I am going to kick it in the face.

The owner accused me of allsorts, but was sufficiently sure that I meant what i said, that she restrained her dog.

Everyone's dogs, like everyone's children, are a delight to their immediate family - that family simply need to remember that not everyone feels quite as intensely loving about their pet or offspring as they do, and therefore are not willing to 'embrace the love' in a public place.
Lol, tony. Any news from your side? (sorry, Mrs O. It is about a dog)
Venturing out of crosswords for a change of scenery eh, G?
< < < i'm not allowed off my leash when i'm in Whitby
I agree with everything you've said and I do like dogs.

I would like to add my bugbear to the list. Those retractable dog leads that act as a trip wire, I've been caught out a number of times and I've also had a dog run into the path of my car whilst on an overextended lead.
