Have To Rehome My Lovely Maltese

I have recently gone through a marriage breakdown and I am desperately trying to get my life back on track. I have the opportunity of a very nice little Housing Association flat but they don't allow pets [not even with visitors]. I have the most gorgeous 2yr old Maltese and she is 'my baby'. She is well behaved, does tricks and is curled up beside me as I type this through my tears.
I have no-one (no friends or family) that I can talk this over with to decide on the right course of action.
I know housing is hard to come by but I can't afford to buy, private rentals, that will accept pets, are like gold dust and snapped up so quickly!
I also need to find work. I haven't worked much in the last two years since I got my dog - a lovely little temp part-time job a few months back [that I had hoped would go permanent] but nothing else, so she isn't familiar with being alone much. If I have to re-home her then I would need to do it quickly because I could lose this flat but I need to be sure that she is going to a good home and be with someone that isn't at work all day.
I have so much going around in my head I just can't think straight - in need of support!

Sorry to hear your news - where abouts are you?
Question Author
Colchester
i think you have a big problem - even if you did make the gut wrenching decision to rehome her, finding a home is near impossible. All the rehoming and rescue centres are full (in my area anyway). My sister in law is in a similar position to you, and has been trying for eight weeks to find something for her dog. She has her name down on a waiting list for a rescue, but my m-i-l is having to temporarily have her while she waits to get to the top of the list!
i reckon the first thing to do is to phone a few rescues and find out what the situation is where you are
Have you spoken to your local vets?
How is she with cats and other dogs?
So sorry to hear this.... two questions...

Where abouts are you and did you buy from a reputable breeder, as in one that is still breeding and may be able to advise you or even take the daog back.

Divegirl she is in Colchester.

She is a Pedigree, bought from a KC Reg' Breeder and is totally adorable. She isn't very good around other dogs. She was jumped on by a lab' at Obedience classes when she was just a few months old and cowers from large dogs but often does the play bow around small dogs.
Rescues are full to bursting... this just makes me even sadder!
Have just rung my vet and the receptionist was so lovely and helpful. She is going to help where she can! She thinks that maybe her daughter may be able to help so I am now waiting on a phone call.
Question Author
My baby was from the last litter that the Breeder had. She did say she wasn't going to be breeding anymore and moving abroad with her two babies. I tried ringing the telephone number - just in case - but no longer there.
And cats?
Fingers crossed that the vet can help as of course if you can re-home her to someone you know it would be so much better.
Let us know how you get on and in the meanwhile I will ask a mate of mine who runs a rescue if she knows of anyone who can help you in your area [she's in Northampton so to far away for you]

Thank you Lisa
dawny am I invisible? For the third time, how is she with cats?
Question Author
Sorry ladybirder - very emotional at moment - not really on the ball! She is not good with cats really - growls and charges at them.
Hi Dawny, I have just 'spoken' [online] to my friend and she is on the case for you. If it came to it, would you be able to transport your dog to Northampton or Redditch.... I know its a bit of a way from you but it is an option that we can consider for your girl and I can vouch 1000% for them.

Does anyone have sunnydaves fake email addy floating about as Dawn can contact me directly via that
btw.... I'm just off to walk my dogs....will be back in an hour or so.
Hmmm. Well my cat would just stay where she was and not run. She's very dog savvy and has lived with five different rescue dogs over the years.

Dawny I may be able to offer her a home if all else fails for you, subject to knowing she is house trained and has no ongoing health problems at present. And I'd love to hear about her little character??

I am retired so would be at home all day with her and she would be loved and looked after for as long as she lives. You could have access and I would send photos and reports on her as long as you wanted. I don't live particularly near you but I don't see that as a problem.

The offers there Dawny. x

How very kind ABers can be. ;-))
