Airs above the ground. A piaffer - piaffe without the 'r' is the verb - is one particular movement in equestrianism...specifically, where the animal remains on one spot and lifts its feet in the same succession as a trot, but more slowly. 'Airs above the ground' is the general name given to other 'high' movements. For a list of them, click here
