on friday last we collected magnum our new 12 week old standard poodle, on reading up lloads of books and advice from answerbank members we carefully introduced pup to 5 year old standard bitch , things went ok all be it tolerance ( hi when are you going home ) attitude at first no love at first sight but thankfully no aggression although she always has had a lovely nature. We have had a few Jealousy Warning growls espeically at nightime ... pup is in a cage at end of bed elder always been under the bed and felt that this best to keep them seperate but adult warns when pup goes to bed side of cage ...... anybody out there with two dogs or more different ages  , am i being a worryguts is the elder just disciplining will she grow to love him once she realises hes here to stay ?. Giving her loads of extra attention and ignoring her when pup not present any advice would b great thanx

It's very early days yet.  Don't worry too much.  Things will just gradually sort themselves out.  Our puppy eventually wore the old dog down into acceptance and finally play.  And over the next few months they have to sort out the pecking order.  As soon as you have more than one dog they become a bit more 'pack' like and while you are still top dog, they have to decide who comes next in line.  After a few weeks, the older dog will almost certainly just accept that there are now two of them.  I found that once you could take them both for walks together it got better.  Just give the old dog lots of love and don't expect it to find the little one anything but irritating for a while!  Good luck
Hi callisto, a method that the RSPCA gave me helped towards a similar introduction.  Get an old duster or glove and stroke each dog in turn with it.  Keep the duster in a plastic bag so as not to let the scent go away.  Keep on doing this.  At some point, each dog will smell the other dog as being part of itself.  Hope this helps, it did help with mine.
Can you make it clear to your older dog and the pup that she is the boss? Greet her first, feed her first, ignore the pup and pay attention to her when pup is around, maybe keep something back from her usual meals and give it to her with lots of fuss when pup gets fed. Make sure that your visitors do the same, this is important! I am sure that it is just discipline growling, but if she feels secure as second in command to you she is more likely to relax and accept pup
