Grooming long haired GSD

My ten year old GSD is a beautiful long haired dog. I take her to the groomers every eight week and she comes back gleaming.

On a day to day basis, I use a brush to groom her but as I get older, I find it more and more difficult to do the bending of my head and kneeling that I used to do. As a consequence, she doesn't get groomed properly especially around her 'trousers', which she hates having done.

Would one of those furminators be better for me to use? Would it get the job done more quickly? I don't want to hurt what might be sore bones in her hips and shoulders.

yes furminators are faster than a brush and take more out. Could you teach your girl to climb up on a bench or something in the garden so you don't have to bend?
All I ever used on Max was a rake like comb, he loved being groomed and he would jump up onto a grooming table I'd made, though as he got older I had to make a ramp, and would have stopped all day if I'd had the time. Mind you I never got him looking like he did when he'd been done professionally he really looked the top dog
I bought one of the furminators for my little female sabre tooth tiger. She has bushy feathers that make her bum look huger than mine.

It is really good as it doesn't seem to snag in the hair - something that usually results in injury to me.
A furminator doesnt touch the double coat of a Rough Collie. I would try using a long pin brush together with an anti tangle grooming spray which will help keep her tidier for longer.

Thank you for your answers. I do stand her on the back door patio which is three steps high so I don't have to kneel down. It's the neck bending which is a problem. I'll try a furminator if it works on a sabre toothed tiger!

My previous GSD who we had from a puppy also loved being groomed. This one who is a rescue, has always made a fuss although she does settle after a while.

I'll also look out for some anti tangle spray. Thanks for the link.
I bought one of these furminators a couple of weeks ago, himself, who combs the dog, doesn't think it's any better than the rake type comb that he usually uses. I have no idea about either as the dog runs and hides under the trampoline if he see's me holding either comb.

You must have traumatised it at sometime, rocky.
I cant see how a Furminator is going to get through your dogs 'trousers', the pins arnt long enough.

Grooming spray, a bottle will last you ages.

Nah Tilly, he hates being groomed, always has. When himself takes him for a walk, he usually brushes him at the same time as he's a bit captive and can't go anywhere.
