We have cats with very odd behaviours, when my 3yr old female (Millie) was about 9-12 months old she loved being brushed on her back with the kitchen hand brush, I would spend some time doing this until I got tired or she would beat hell out of the brush!  She has got onto another habit now, it started when I would lightly smack her backend when I was playing with her, she purred ( SHE LIKED IT! ) The problem now is she wants me to smack her at every oppertunity, she will follow me around until I sit down and she crys for my attention ie:- licking me, clawing at my legs, just being a pain in the bum really until I give in, so there I am smacking her backend and shes loving every minute of it, really purring loudly, and my arm is ready to fall off, she has even followed me into the toilet to be smacked.  Some times when I stop she gets really uptight and bites me, she has even gone for 1 of our other 2 cats because she has'nt got her own way. She has been spayed so its not as if she getting sexually aroused (well I hope not! ) or can she still get the feelings, we get a tom cat in our garden most days who I think is after her but she is'nt interested, she chases him out.

Then there is our 15yr old tom ( Sooty ) he crys when the phone rings even the moblie, if we are changing our ring tone on our mobiles he really come in your face and crys out loud.

Has anyone got any idea why she is like this, has anyone got pets has an odd behaviour or is it just me!!!...  HELP!!!!!...   :-)

Hi cat woman,

Poor old Millie! But my she-cat (also been spayed) is a bit kinky like that too. I once watched a documentary where it said that she-cats don't come in season until they've been 'serviced' - and then the tom follows them round for ever until the deed is done - so it could be that all our poor little spayed cats still get raped even when there's nothing to do it for. Your posting really made me laugh though, she sounds like a real character.

As for the phone ringing, maybe it's something to do with the pitch of your ringtone. Before I went onto broadband both my cats used to go mad when I went online using dialup: the pitch must have been just right (or wrong as far as they were concerned) to make them dippy: they jumped all over me, so in the end I used to have to start dialup, then pick them up and take them out of the room for a love until it had connected!

But then again, when you talk pets and odd behaviour, I think this posting could go on for a while now. Prepare to be inundated ...

Cat woman.  Your posting made me laugh.  I have three cats and two dogs and they all behave madly and have the most absurd habits.  I will say to you what others say to me - my pets are all mad because they have a mad owner!!  Please don't take this as an insult!

I have a female spayed cat.

She actually 'sprays' when she is excited!  Her tail goes rigid and it starts trembling!  I wouldnt mind but its the most awful smell!

Hi Mrs- Pegasus, My Millie used to do that outside on the shrubs, I thought only tom cats did that to mark their territory. Then I put it down to her being a scatty Tortoiseshell, when she is outside she finds dead twigs on shrubs and chews on them, my husband & I say she,s flossing her teeth!!!

Must go she is desperate asking for a smack again!  :-)
