I have given up with the worm tablets (not for me, for my cat) and at the last count I just about have all my fingers left. So I have bought Profender Spot On today for my cat. Does anyone use it, is it OK? Silly question probably, but reading the instructions, it says 'Wear gloves to apply, esp. Women'. What does that mean?? There seems quite a large amount in the pipette, do I use it all? thanks everyone.

Yes, you use it all (but you should make sure that you've got the correct size tubes, as there are different sizes for small, medium and large cats).

It's absorbed through the skin [and one of its constituents (praziquantel) isn't licensed for use in humans] so it makes sense to wear gloves so that you don't dose yourself as well as the cat. I'm guessing (from what you've written) that there may be particular concerns about the effects of the ingredients upon female (human) hormones.

I've used it and it's effective, not to mention a good way of preserving fingers, but I've never seen a leaflet since I buy one at a time (from the vet) so I didn't know about the gloves. But I'm still around so it can't be that bad.

I bought it at the vet and on the sticky label with the cat's name, it gave the instructions regarding wearing gloves. Well he has had it, and he is OK. I am always wary about giving animals (and myself) drugs though, that's why I wanted to make sure it was safe. Sorry I do ask silly questions sometimes. thanks everyone.
