I have just recorded the sound of an owl outside in the garden with my Blackberry (as a video clip - but its really just sound only as I can't see the owl) How can I upload it here and will someone be able to identify the type of owl? TIA

If it is going toowhit toowhoo or hooooooo it is a tawny owl. A screechy sound is a barn owl. I hear the tawny owl here in Leicester.

Can't believe I am going to type this but as I have had no luck uploading the clip it goes: woooooooo then there is a 2 second pause then it continues with wa wa wa wooooo bother sections sound quite eerie and mournful. Is this a tawny as suggested?

Have uploaded it!!! Here is the link - listen at the beginning, at 39 seconds and at around 1 min 27 .............. Please can someone tell me what type of owl this is ........... the other links are great, but they have not positively identified my owl x

Him if you sit quietly and play a recording of a female he will come quite close

So it is a "he" then? I wasn't sure ....... any good recording of a female on line you can point me to?
