My poor dog is limping quite bad today, he's had a mild limp on and off for a couple of days but now it's gotten worse. I won't be able to get him to the vets til Monday, that's if there's an appointment available so I was wondering, does anyone know if you can give dogs human Ibuprofen, he weighs about 45kilos. Many thanks for any replies. RR

I've just googled about a bit and it's a big fat no no, can anyone recommend anything for him before I can get to the vets, I hate seeing him like this.
Do you think it's because of arthiritis? How about some cod liver oil capsules?
No you can't - human medication can be fatal for animals. Phone your vets, they may well have a emergency phone helpline on over the weekend - ours does.

Boxtops, I'm always a bit loathe to use the emergency number when I don't see it as an emergency as such. NSYAIW, I have wondered about arthritis, he's 5 and half years old now and quite a big lad , can it come on that quickly? It's worse after he's been laying around for a bit and he will insist on laying on the concrete lean to floor or the tiled bathroom floor, he'll go mad later when I don't let him do either. Thanks to you both for your replies.
Aspirin (children's dose) is ok for a temporary measure. Depending on size a whole one for a GSD/Lab size or half for a smaller breed.
Supplements like Cod Liver Oil may help but would take several days to kick in. Also a Bioflow Collar would help if its arthritis. Just seen he's 45 kilos so a whole child's aspirin would ease his pain - I'd give one tonight and then half twice tomorrow.

Thanks Lankeela, I've just calculated he'd need 1 and a half adult aspirin (99lbs times 5mg lower end of the dose range) seems a bit much, do you think that would be ok?
Long term, if it is Arthritis, I have heard some great reports of Yumove

http://www.lintbells.com/products/yumove
I'd give him one just to be on the safe side, and half in the morning and half tomorrow night.
Also any form of Glucosamin and Chondroitin (human form, available in Holland and Barrett).
Doh, just realised thats whats in Yumove!
