Why do teenagers of decent parents with no money worries want to go out rioting & looting?

so with the little scruffy ones we blame the parents, but when the parents have a few bob it can't be their fault? They may be respectable people themselves but if their kids are out rioting they need to invest more time in their parenting skills.
I'm not saying the parenting is the only factor, but it's very much an influencing factor.

As an ex-teacher I know that parenting is the greatest factor, but that does not necessarily mean affluence. Some middle class children are indulged in material things but neglected in parental involement. I found some children rarely saw their parents who were working or out every evening. Others were never expected to be responsible for their actions. This bred arrogance and intolerance . They didn't expect to conform to acceptable behaviour.
This attitude is particularly noticable in Public Schools . Drop something on the floor , make a mess etc it doesn't matter someome else will pick it up.
Clearing up , putting things away after lessons etc that is someone elses job.

They must be sent to Afghanistan with the British army so that they come to know the value of United Kingdom. They don't know how many lives have been sacrificed by their ancestors for a peaceful UK.

Neither do i, perhaps its the pack mentality, do what your friends do, if you look at some of the people rioting over student fees, were i'm sure from good families, who surely must be horrified that their offspring could behave in such a way, i know i would be.

How many public schools have you been in modeller? The ones I've been in have much harsher discipline than the local comprehensive. Your statement that 'someone else will pick it up' is frankly laughable.

Whilst i agree with modeller that there is sometimes an arrogance in public schools, I think there is a much greater arrogance in state schools, including those in deprived areas. At the end of each lesson the floor is littered with sweet/chewing gum wrappers, paper aeroplanes, and with broken pens/pencils/rulers that had been handed out at the start of the lesson because apparentlythey can't afford to buy their own equipment. I also pick up quite a lot of spare change- 5p pieces are discarded as worthless. Refusing to let pupils leave until the room is clear just isn't feasible.

Bringing down taxes would help, albeit less for Gov to spread to 3rd world. It's telling when a youngster steals a trolley full of food.

craft I had and still have connection with certain PS.
For obvious reasons I can't name names . When I say PS I am not referring to private schools who have delusions of grandeur where there may be a little more discipline. They have to count the pennies so they can't employ so many support staff to do the chores. No fee paying school can afford to upset the parents by making their offspring to clean up a mess if the child doesn't want to, and the higher the fees the less likely the pupils are made to do any chores.
Have you actually worked in a PS rather than just ' been in ' ?

factor30 I agree with you but I was answering dave50s question .
I think the whole concept of Comp. education and the removing of sanctions from the teachers was a recipe for disaster. I was glad to retire and my daughter left the profession for the same reason .

Digressing slightly I wonder what will happen to the Clapham teaching assistant , youth mentor, who was charged today. Will he, should he ,keep his job ?
