Ring the council, they will send round their wasp man for about £30 (that's what they charged me). It's not worth trying to do it yourself - wasps can turn extremely nasty.
The stuff you spray it with at night (when they're quiet) and then retreat.
It forms a barrier and suffocates them I think.
I use thinners personally. Dopes then straight away .. then in a bag with 'em.
In the States they use soapy water.......
It's okay doing it yourself but you have to get to them before they get to you lol unless you can run like hell.
I can : )
Many places now sell wasp nest destroyer, these are very effective especially if they are made by Sorex, be very careful, they will attack in numbers if you are are still in the vicinity, better to do the job late at night or early in the morning. Good luck :-)
That's why I'd rather get the wasp man in!

I often found it very amusing when I was a Pest Control Officer, we would often get calls about wasp nests, they usually wanted a price then they would sometimes say "im not paying that" (usually about £25.00) they would usually phone back and book the job in after being stung trying to treat it themselves, one guy was rushed to hospital and his wife called me in.
We had a wasps nest on the fence in the garden a few weeks ago. My dad decided to pour white spirits over it and set fire to it.. he had to go back with a tin of wasp spray to get the last few but it worked. Our one was very small though, about the size of a golf ball.
The secret to DIY with solvents is to "not" set fire to it.
When I ws in the RAF .. we used to nick Genklene .. an industrial degreaser used in vapour cleaning processes.
Quietly squirt a bit in .. and they were dead before even one had a chance to come out.
As Ratter says .. solvent vapour knocks them out PDQ.
A few years ago on a different forum it was suggested that I pour petrol over the nest and the vapour would kill them. I have a serious phobia of the little stripey b@stards so I got a neighbour who keeps bees to come round fully kitted up and for a few pints of beer he did the dirty work for me.
