This probably sounds REALLY stupid but just wondering- Is it possible? Also, do chicks immediately die once they are refrigerated? Or does it take time, and, if so, how long?

Chicks can hatch from any colour egg, white, blue or brown, it doesn’t matter. The one requirement is ofcourse that the egg has been fertilized. There is no way of telling if they are fertile, looking from the outside.
Not sure what you mean with chicks dying in the fridge but fertile eggs to go into an incubator stay viable for up to two weeks if kept at 10°C. After that the hatching rate drops.
as long as the eggs havent been kept in a fridge and a rooster has been with the hens(ask the farmer)
put them in an incubator -better and cheaper to put them under a 'clocking' hen/bantam(if you dont have one ,a friend coud lend you one)
I don't think calicodrcool realises the difference between fertilised and unfertilised eggs.

unfertilised eggs (like you'd buy in a shop) are unfertilised and haven't got chicks in them, they are just.... well, eggs.
a fertilized egg when opened also shows the 'tread' in it--so if you open one and it is fertilized theres a fair chance the others in the box are too-so there is
You can buy anything on Ebay including fertile eggs. My sister has purchased fertile eggs this way. She receives them by normal post / incubates them at high succes rate.
