Getting rid of mastic

Having removed an old conservatory I've got old bits of mastic on my brick wall. Anyone got any ideas how it can be removed without causing me hours of labour picking bits off individually?

There is no easy solution (solvent etc) just a stanley knife or one of those razor scrapers for gettting paint of glass.

If the mastic is silicone based, there is a product that acts as a silicone hardener and makes it easier to scrape the mastic off.  It still needs quite a bit of scraping/picking though, and I can't remember what it was called but I did get it at B&Q.

Power-washer (it it's outdoors, obviously). I used one to remove Ivy remnants from a wall, I'm sure that would do the trick.
