why do dolphins jump out of water?

Here is an extract from a web-page on dolphins...

"There are four probable reasons that dolphins jump: either to play, for communication with other dolphins, to get rid of parasites or to get a better view over the water."

I suspect that conserving energy is another possibility.

Forgive me for sounding ignorant, but how would jumping out of water conserve energy?  Doesn't it take energy to  jump?
no no no they are swimming up quickly to take a breath and then over shoot... its very hard to see where the surface is sometimes!!!

There is also the fact that the passage of a body through air is subject to less resistance than through water...so, energy-saving.
