Well it certainly seems to drive them wild with excitement. Aniseed is sometimes used as the bait instead of foxes in hunts! And gypsies to quieten unfriendly dogs use an oil prepared from valerian and aniseed traditionally. But it doesn't seem to have any negative effects on dogs.
