I have just moved house and have a acquired a beautiful garden. It will take me a while to find out what all the plants are (apart from the 50+ roses). However, this morning I noticed lots of what I thought were anthills in my block paving in the front. On closer inspection I noticed little black ladybird-sized beetles scuttling in and out of these mounds of earth.

Are these beetles friends of the garden or should I be eradicating them? I have not seen them before!

Thanks
