Old dog with problems
I have a Yorkie who is almost 16 years old ..he is almost blind and deaf ..he has also got arthritis and has fits... he now is having incontinent problems ..he has to go out every half hour or so ..so Hubby goes to bed at 11pm and I stay up till about 2 am then Hubby gets up about 6 am to let him out ..it is now wearing us out !!! Do I need to accept that he needs to go???

Dear twinny - it is not an easy thing to do, but I believe it is the right thing to do. I have always taken my many pets for their last visit to the vet. All of them have given me so much happiness, comfort and love - it is my way of thanking them. It always gave me peace of mind to know at first hand that their passing was extremely peaceful.

twinny, my dear. I had the same thing last year. People were very kind and yes they do understand your feelings right now; but that doesn't takeaway the hurt. albaqwerty has already mentioned Rainbow Bridge –

twinny - you said earlier that his quality of life is poor. I have to say that it is not going to get any better for him, is it? Nor do I think that it will get easier for you whilst you delay the inevitable. I don't mean to be harsh here but sleep on all this advice everyone has given you and see how you feel tomorrow. ♥

have a couple more 'special days' with him, giving him the love and attention and care youve been giving him,
and then try and be brave ......
ohhh, its horrible isnt it .... heartbreaking .... like you say, theyre one of the family .... but youll be doing the best for him ....
when we had to do the awful deed with our old poorly dog some years ago, we planted a lovely rose bush in the corner of the garden, with a little brass plaque by the side of it with his name on, to remember him by.
it blooms every year, reminding us of all the happy memories we all had with him over the years.

just to add - we had the vet come to us, much better than making that horrible car journey..
the vet gaves us time for us to say our last goodbyes, and then me and my dad held him, as he injected his leg...
it was sad, of course it was, but it was all very peaceful twinny, it was just as though he'd gone to sleep x
it was nice we'd put him out of his suffering..
