Sorry for you loss dotty. It is sad when we have to say good by to our dear animal friends but we are left with lots of happy memories.
know just how you feel dotty - lost my border collie over a year ago and still miss her.
we grieve for our pets same as we grieve for any member of the family. At least they both had a happy life with you Dot. xx
I think the best way to remember a beloved pet is to give another pet the chance of a happy life
I was lying in bed last night thinking about my first dog and how much I missed him - he died in 1988. They seem to wrap themselves around your heart and never let go.

I have just lost a verbal argument with a very vocal cat - maybe I should go and find my wheelie bin!

;-)
i agree with you woolfgang ,had my labrador for 15 years, one of the worst times was when i had him put to sleep,i did have a spell where i thought no more dogs, then i decided to give a 3 year old yellow labrador a home, dotty give a dog a good home they are looking for good people like you.

I'm not sure about it yet I suppose, I always worked full time but now I am working further away from home and so the working days start earlier and can last longer than they used to, Bingo and Max were used to me not being there and were very good, my youngest son works from late afternoon into the early hours, it makes it difficult to take on a young dog that needs more attention than those two, they slept all the time I was out. I may get a cat, Tom is 13 now and is getting on,
If you *did* get another dog you could call him Garth.

;-)
We also said "no more dogs" when we lost our beloved Meg. After 5 months we gave in
and have not regretted it. Fell for you dotty. It hurts.
sorry, should read "feel".
Question Author
no i'd call him Troyal actually lol damn you've made me think now grrr
Troyal?
dotty-get a rescue Greyhound-they are placid dogs, need just 2 walks a day....and sleep for England. There is nothing they like better than your sofa. Most are 3-4 years old-so well past the puppy stage.
If your son is home during the early part of the day-he can do the morning walk....and the dog ( or any dog/breed )would not be alone all day.
Question Author
I'm not a lover of bigger dogs, Bingo was a small tri-colour mongrel and very cute, Max was a fat staffy cross but not too big,

Troyal is Garth's first name btw
Aaw Dot .It is sad . I still chat to Shaney in his box in the front room and I'm sure he's behind me at times :) .
No more dogs for us though .Getting too old and it's too much of a commitment .I've had a lot of aggro lately and I couldn't have coped with having to look after a dog as well.
but .......never say never :))

I'm still talking to Bingo and my kids think I'm doolali but can't kick the habit! We went to his grave yesterday and it is looking good, should be nicelt overgrown in spring and so won't draw too much attention, though the regular dog walkers have started putting christmas decorations on the branches of the tree that overhang it, it's a fave doggie walk and so lots seem to have taken to stopping and reading the stone.
hi dot know how you feel i still talk to ours , we buried her in the middle of the lawn so when in the garden we have to step over her it seemed right as she was always laying in the way when she was alive so always had to stepping over her xx
I love cats and dogs - I don't think that I have met a cat or dog that I didn't like. However humans confuse me and there are many who annoy me or that I loathe.

Troyal is as bad as the name my brother and SIL planned for their first born son - Mogue. Thankfully it was a girl.
One thing about greys and lurchers...they are excellent at 'folding' them selves into small packages-especially on the sofa!

I had considered a staffie-but decided they are a bit too energetic.....the ones I see when out with Sally are all manic...lol

I still miss the mongrel my ex and I had-it's been 5 years. And I still think of the huge black cat we'd brought with us from the US over 20 years ago. They really stick in your heart.
