Very pregnant dogs do pant a bit. As a general rule, they do tend to go off their food just before labour begins, and also get quite restless. She may then start to strain & this can go on for several hours before the first pup arrives. If she stops straining you should get veterinary advice.

The first thing to arrive is the water bag, then the pup comes in its sac...very important to watch carefully to make sure the bitch breaks to bag quickly & leave it to her to sort out the cord. Only step in if she doesn't get it breathing quickly (where you may need to rub its nose & mouth with a towel & give it a bit of a firm rub)

You should only get worried if a pup seems to get stuck or there is a gap of more than a couple of hours beween pups. Then you should get a Vet quickly.

Fingers crossed for you.
