my cat adores my husband! she cuddles up to him, always lays on his lap, always rub her face against him, yet she seems to ignore me. recently she has started to bite me when i go to stroke her, usually when she is around my husband. someone told me that she could be jealous of me getting attention off my husband. is there any truth in this, or why is she doing it, and how can i get her to trust me? x

We don't often think of pets succumbing to a petty human emotion like jealousy in the same manner that people do but they do get used to being the center of attention. It can be difficult and stressful for your pet to have to share your husbands love and affection. Pets aren't just jealous of other animals. Jealousy can rear its head when a new baby or other person comes into your life and household. So with your husband giving the cat so much attention he is making the cat feel threatened when you move in for a cuddle. Start to take more to do with the cat and tell your husband to back off a bit. Give her a treat twice a day off your own back and stroke her back with 2 long strokes from her head to her tail and she will soon come round to you. Good Luck.
You also need your husband to support your place in the 'group' by him pushing the cat off/away the moment she displays this behaviour towards you & then show you some physical affection. A friend has trained her cats to share her bed, not fight for exclusive rights, by pushing the aggressor away, off the bed, at the first signs. Now both will share peacefully or neither get bed priveliges! You can shape (train) a cat's behaviour just like she's training you to leave her alone by biting you! Mikel.L is right you can make your company more attractive to the cat but your hubby will need to back off for a time, after all some affection or attention is better than none, whoever it comes from!
when your husband leaves the room do things that she will like for example give her treats out of your hand this sounds silly but its true if you put food on the floor dogs as well as cats thinks the floor gives them food!! this might be a stage of a new cat dont worry it should go away. it is near imposable to live in a house where you hate your owners if they dont do anything to the cat . last look at her alot when your in the same room or she can see you dont ingor her ! hope this helped -- sstreet!
