Early rising dogs
11 Answers
How can we get our dogs to differentiate between working days, when they are walked at 6.30 a.m. and weekends when we would like to have a lie in. They will not settle down in spite of being let out into the garden for a 'comfort break' but continue to bark, yelp and generally make a nuisance of themselves until we have to get up. Any ideas?

The annoying thing is I put food down overnight and when I finally got up Florence went down in the kitchen and started eating that. I think it's company she's after not breakfast. (I refer to her as a furry alarm clock too). Daisy is a lot more patient - she is sat purring at my feet even as I write.
We usually get awaken before the alarm clock goes off, but with a cocker spaniel parading across the pillows, stopping every now n then for a sweep across your face with his tongue, well...its hardly surprising. Thing is, i get up to let him out, n he just snuggles into the warm area i have just risen from....usually around 5 am. Weekends differ, sometimes earlier sometimes later...I don't think either of us have slept past 7 since we got him.

My secret is to only half open one eye, because if you open both they know you are really awake. Mine are on the move when the alarm goes off if I am working, so you could try setting the alarm later at weekends and wait for it to go off.
Mine don't bother about getting up, they just start washing your face or biting your toes through the duvet.
