I have recently moved to the country and have two cats, one of which is only young and I decided not to let out until we had moved. We have now been in our house for two hectic weeks and the older cat is going to the cat flap wanting to go out. I must admit I am a bit worried about letting them out as the road running through the village can be used as a race track and has large agricultural lorries, in the other direction are fields, horses and a copse. Should I let them out now? Should I wait until the weekend when I am at home and should I stop worrying about it!?

Its always a worry letting cats out for the first time after a move. I know because we moved with 2 cats some time ago. There isn't a lot you can do but hope for the best. My mother always said to put butter on their paws and then they will be able to smell their way back. Don't let them out on the raod side, and yes I would wait till you are at home at weekend. Good luck.
Keep them in until the weekend .
Two weeks!

I kept ours in for two days. Once out I kept calling so he knew where home was, but he was quite sensible in coming back to check where we were before exploring again.

Perhaps play some music in the house for a while, then play the same music quite loud so they can sense where you are.
