Any suggestions, please?

Our new border collie bitch who is nine months old came to us a week ago. At first she peed and pooed everywhere, but with persistant hard work we've taught her to go in her own little corner of the garden now. However ... that's the only place she will go! We take her out for at least 3 long walks each day, up on the downs or through the forest, and she'll sniff, run about and be very interested, but she will not pee! Consequently when we get home to have to take her to her corner of the garden where she politely obliges and then comes in.
The trouble is we're taking her away for a weekend in a couple of weeks time and the last thing I want is her peeing all over my friends carpets.
Any suggestions please as to how I can encourage her to realise that she can wee where she likes when she's out and about, she doesn't have to hold it until she's back in her corner of her garden everytime?

Hi, well done with the house training!!! When she does her business in your garden do you give her a command? Tell her to'do wee wees' or a similar phrase, when she goes....PRAISE PRAISE PRAISE....... Then start to give this command when you are out on a walk, she should soon get the hang of it. You have done so well with her in a short space of time and she seems to be settling well so it shouldn't take too long for her to advance to this next step.

Lovely, thanks Lisa, I'll start in a minute when I take her out for walk number 2. She really is amazingly bright and so quick to catch on the what we do and don't like, so hopefully she'll get the message nice and quickly.

She'll soon get the idea. It's just that after being trained to "go" in one place it will take her a while to realise that she's not being naughty doing it in other places outside the house. Most dog owners have the same problem when they first start taking ther new puppies out but as I said they soon learn.

aww julia, she sounds as if she is doing so well. Jack, our Collie, was the same-finally got him to go in the yard, and he got set in his ways! As has been said, a command, and lots of praise and a treat when she gets it right, and her tail will be wagging so much she'll soon get the hang of it!

Took her up on the downs about an hour ago, let her wear herself out with the ball and then started trying to encourage her to wee, saying all the right things and inviting her to sniff about ... at which point it bucketed down with rain. She looked at me as much as to say, 'Are you nuts woman?' and fled to the car with me (I'd like to say close, only that would be lying) on her heels!!!! Ne'mind, we'll try again later!

Good to see that she is settling in nicely.

I really hope that you get things sorted out, I am sure that you will because she is a female dog and we all know that all females are much more intelligent than males.
