Did you get instructions from the breeder about food?

At 12 weeks she should be on 3-4 meals a day. How much are you giving her at present (how many cans)?

I used to make one of the meals scrambled egg (usually the breakfast).

12 weeks is too young for adult food. She needs the puppy food to get all the minerals and vitamins she requires for growth.

Are you still in touch with the breeder? They are often a good source of information and help, I am sure they would welcome a phone call (if only to hear how their pup is!). They will often keep a pup from the litter and they will tell you exactly what to feed your pup.
Agree with kita - contact the breeder for advice (although you should have been given a diet sheet). Try adding some complete dry puppy food. You need to keep the puppy on puppy food until at least 12 months as the protein content is higher and they need it to help them grow, particularly as Bassets are a big bodied dog.

Just a thought - if the breeder recommended Pedigree Puppy food perhaps they meant you to get the dry complete stuff, not just the tins?
Pedigree food is sh*t. Most commercial diets are. If you want to feed dry, then Burns or JWB, wet feed nature diet!
I won some Nature Diet at a show a couple of weeks ago. I put it in with their Eukanuba, and they pebble dashed the patio! They all had the squits the next day. Pedigree is not a bad food, provided you feed the right sort and enough of it in small regular meals for a puppy.
lol@ lankeela

my puppy keeps puking his food up then eating it again...any logic in that?
It is a bad food! I've seen first hand how they make it, no meat, just soya and water with a lot of chemicals and preservatives added, then before the can is sealed a revolting scent is sprayed into the can, so when you open it you think its meat! Absolute CRAP as with most of the commercial foods, and of course the dogs will get the squits feeding naturediet with a complete food, protein overload!
Intesting comments Snappy,I've recently gone over from JWL dry to Pedigree dry, partly because she kept farting (sorry) and partly because she seemed to prefer it,and ate more and I was worried about her not putting on enough weight.
The last few days she has had a bad tummy (not raging runs-but very loose) . I did post a question about dry foods but most answers were that they were all pretty much the same and feed her what she prefers. You obviously don't agree or are you just talking about the tins?
I dont like any commercial foods, just crap and chemicals. A friends dog was on this before she switched to raw, he was having 8poos a day! The only way a dog needs to go that many times is because theres a lot of crap to come out, literally!
So what do you mean by commercial-the ones in supermarkets only-like Pedigree,Bakers,Iams?
hi i work in a pet shop and we have to do courses on dog and cat food, so we get to know the ins and outs of it all.
pedigree is very rich which is why alot of dogs eat it but then what happens it goes through alot of dogs smelly.
royal canin has just brought out a bassat hound food for them and also there are other breeds they do too. our most popular one is james well beloved, its ideal for dogs which are prone to skin probs and also that have the poos. depending what breed you have they now say you have to keep them on puppy till 12 months if a small breed and if medium to large breed 18 months. most tins of food are filled with suger which is another reason why they lap it up. you should go to a good pet shop and ask them about all the food they do and ask them questions if they are a good shop they should be able to answer any thing.
hope this helps
sorry i forgot
nature diet used tobe good but they have had loads of probs and i mean big probs in the last 12 months and they have changed the way they do it, so alot of dogs cant have it now. there is one which is simular called natures menu.
i myself feed all my dogs on frozen meat which they love and have been so different on, i just mix it with abit of mixer.
I mean almost anything you'd get at P@H, homemade is best or like i said naturediet, burns (although it made my little bitch very windy) or prize choice!
