Not at all, dogs wouldnt do this if they didnt enjoy it, I have seen many dogs of all breeds participate in agility and to me it makes the best of their natural skills and abilities, and keeps them fit, active and less bored in their everyday life.

thank you! you made me feel much better. I do agility with my little pup. His feet are only about 2 inches long so he doesn't go very fast.
To be honest, its not wise that you let a puppy participate in agility exercise - especially if he is under a year old, its not wise to put too much stress on their soft bones until they are fully grown as they are too susceptible to injury and malformation.

oh no I am not hard on him at all. I did a class once and I really liked it because you could take a break WHENEVER you want. He's a Cairn Terrier so he is very hardy.
I think horse racing could be called inconsiderate and some jumps cruel, I know the horses love to run and race, but they do not understand the fact that if they fall on a jump and injure themselves they may be shot, I would not put a loved animal at that sort of risk.

Agility is just pure fun virtually no risk, OK, maybe a pulled muscle. I have never done agility with a dog of mine but always wished I had. I have kept Jack Russell for years and they would have loved it as much as they loved the Terrier Racing that we used to do with them (no risk of injury before anyone comments).

I have done agility with my three dogs, they love it ,in human terms i think its their saturday night out great fun they really get excited when they know where they are going, but beware that no dog should do this if there under a year old there bones are not strong enough, when they do start they have to take it slowly even at this age ,a good trainer would advice you and it keeps us humans fit to

My little guy loves it too!
i have always wanted to do agility and when i got my collie i thought there could be a decent chance of him liking it.i took him to obedience which he found boring???!!! there was an agility display at a local show and as soon as he saw it he was besotted. i waited until he was old enough and he goes twice a wk and lives for that time.i say the a- word and he goes nuts.plus the bond that we share through the training and time spent together is very special.he is going to make a super competition dog and will continue to do agility as long as he remains interested i would never force him to do anything.
