Now that the elderberries and blackberries have gone, is there any other free food to be had out in the hedgerows?

hazel nuts, beech mast, sweet chestnuts if you are lucky, rose hips, mushrooms, truffles (if you are very lucky)
I spent last sunday picking elderberries, blackberries, rosehips and sloes.  Blackberries are on their way out but the rest are still going strong here.
You have to travel North with the season and pick as you go.  Blackberries and elderberries are still gojng strong up here.  (North Staffs)
There is tons of stuff, acorns, horse chestnuts (which are not
poisonus - they just dont taste that good) hawthorn berries, pine cone nuts, and of course the good old dandelion, which gives salads and coffee substitute, the list goes on endlessly, can recommend Collins nature guide
Herbs and Healing Plants which gives photographs and uses
as well as a collection time listing.
