Sorry- I saw the title and assumed it was a different poster.
Have you tried taking him out just before you go to bed? Maybe worth ignoring him for a few days at 2am
Could you change the time of his dinner?
give him a key !!...not a doggie person couldn't say sorry !
Champagne corks work well.......
Stop pandering to your dog's whims, let him out before bed.
I meant to say too, gradually bring the time of his dinner forward so that his digestive system time changes.
I'm sure you do take him out before bed.

'' stop pandering to your dogs whims '' its a bit difficult to ignore a dog crying to be let outside to poo !!!!!!!!!!!! he goes out just prior to bedtime, may try feeding him earlier. thanks for the sensible advice :)

Looks like some people on here don't have dogs....

Have you changed his food at all? Are his poos normal otherwise?
I think that would be the first thing to try anne. Poor dog, when you gotta go you gotta go. You can't ignore him unless you want to clean up the mess. If he was doing nothing when he was outside then I would say ignore him but not if he really wants to go.

poo is normal, i dont think he would ever ' go ' in the house, no change in diet. i wish he could tell the time :)
Maybe he'll get it right when the clocks go back. ;-)

LOL at pasta .
How old is he Anne?
Treat him as you would treat a child. Buy him some nappies

silly thought, do you have a nieghbour coming home/going out at that time which then disturbs your hound and it's reaction is to go out and check but have a poo anyway?
(My mutt does daft things to cover up her embarrassment y'see)
^^ this. Dogs, like people will sleep through the beginnings of the need to "go" but if disturbed will then feel the need. Its hard to stop as you can't control external noise/light.
Question Author
no alba, its all quiet at that time.
Do you feed one or two meals a day? If one, try splitting the quantity into two separate meals, last meal given late afternoon and then a walk a few hours later to get the bowels moving to ensure he 'goes' before bedtime.
