I bought an Osprey bag from TKMaxx RRP £95 cost me £29.99. The zip broke. I went back to TKMaxx (different branch) the identical bag RRP£225 cost to customer now £34.99. Can you clarify the RRP bit and tell me how it can change dramatically. Have phoned TKMaxx and was told that I didnt understand how it worked. I have e mailed Osprey and waiting for response. Incidentally similar(new design) Osprey bag available at john lewis and on line direct from osprey for £49

Who do you think 'recommends' the retail price?

I have absolutely no idea - the manufacturer or supplier. Whoever does it though is irrelevant because TKMaxx have the RRP on for one reason only that I can think of and that is to highlight how much you are 'saving'. The RRP should be consistent or what is the point in it if it changes so dramatically.
Did you only buy the bag because it was a saving? Or because you felt it worth £35/30?

In places like tx max you really need to just decide if it's worth buying at the price they are offering.
RRPs are there merely to assist the completely gullible.
Under various trading laws the damn thing was probably on sale in our Oxford Street store on Friday 13th for at least 5 minutes - but nobody actually bought it for that price. No, it was merely a come-on to persuade the gullible that the thing is priced at far more than it is actually worth.
well explained, BM :)
