are the adverts these days becoming more ridiculous by the day?
I thought we'd reached rock bottom when I saw a family sniffing the work-tops and floors trying to sniff that 'fresh' smell, now we have two fellas flying about with one suffering from an itchy armpit which causes him to crash dive. Perhaps it's the result of hallucinogenic drug taking at a young age.

I still think the worst one is the little oriental kid who wants to go to his friends house for a poo as they have a nice air freshener!
If we looked back on these ads in 10 or 20 yrs time we would laugh out loud just as we do now about the old ads on that silly programme (forget what it was called) and yet at the time they seemed ok as it was new to us.
One that really annoys me is the naked young girl in a cornfield seductively looking at the camera until she opens her mouth and reveals bad teeth. I feel I want to knock them all out.She must feel embarrased when friends and family watch that. Its awful !

Oh y-e-s - I forgot that one. That has to be the worst one ever made. And that one in a corn field wouldn't look out of place in a Hammer horror film.
I know 'nostalgia isn't what it used to be' but I remember with fond affection Bing Crosby's Shell adverts, the Murraymint and the Esso Blee-dooler ones.
There's one for a deodorant, I forget which, and it shows a close-up of an armpit with what looks like a load of wriggling worms in it - Yuk!
Seem's to me adverts go in cycles, you have a period where they are funny or witty or both and then a period like now that completly seems to lack anything about them at all.

All of those Halifax adverts seem like finger nails on a blackboard to me or any thing that syas its a "limited edition" how can you have a limited edition hamburger or hairspray Grrrrrr.
There are some awful ones about, but the ones you've mentioned don't seem that bad, at least you recalled them.

I recall having reacted to some truly bad ones in the past, but they were so awful I don't even recall the product or ad any more :-D
Oh yeah, the one that tries to hijack the tender loving care abbreviation for themselves, really does get on my nerves.

Call me a letch, but I'm a sucker for a pretty face and those Halifax ads save themselves with the women on them. Not sure now which company it is - maybe it's Halifax - where those two from Little Britain appear in drag. That girl is absolutely gorgeous; she could rummage through my ISAs anytime.
The Halifax ads feature members of staff at their own radio station, the ones starring Matt and David from Little Britain are for Nationwide.
Question Author
Yes, of course it was. Thanks Tony. She's still gorgeous though.
The Halifax ones just get up my nose anyway, the stupid one at the moment has the girl throwing tea all over the control board. Why would that make me want to open an account?
/// She's still gorgeous though.///

Which one Lew, David or Matt? :-)
.
Lew

I think the lady you are letching over is Amanda Rawnsley.

Can't say I blame you :-)

The Esso Extra advert was a classic. Those cartoon ads have never been beaten in my estimation. Remember Shippham's paste (to the tune of the Blue Danube) and McEwan's beer?

(p.s. schoolboy joke I recall; "What's got four bums and is blue?"

Another favourite of mine was the advert for Mann's Stout, with the slogan, "I like a Mann's. Looks good, tastes good and by golly it does you good!" My mother could never understand why I always sniggered when it came on and I was too embarrassed to explain the double entendre.
That wasn't Manns. It was Mackesons.
You are quite right. I plead false memory syndrome. There used to be adverts for Mann's Brown Ale roughly at the same time and I think someone must have mischievously crossmatched the product of one with the slogan of the other, which is what sticks in my mind.

Now you're just being cheeky Zeuhl!

If you can name her is she an actress then?
I think there are some very good modern adverts.........I loved the John Lewis one.
I hate the one where the school teacher is talking to the parents about the child being a unicorn. that is all I can remember as I usually turn over.
Lew, your question has been answered already. It IS Amanda Rawnsley and ,yes, she is an actress although she's done lots of ads.
