Have you had any of these infuriating calls on your mobile, I did and rang TMobile at least 8 weeks ago to stop them, I got another today and asked how she had my number,,,she mumbled something so I politley ended the call, What happened to the data protection act, isn't anything sacredanymore
end of rant!!!!

Why end it politely?

Just ring off.
Or just don't answer it at all if you don't recognise the number or if it says number withheld...
It's not illegal, per se, to make unsolicited marketing calls to people's phones (either landline or mobile). However it becomes illegal if the owner of that phone number has registered it with the Telephone Preference Service:

No Dixie this was about a finance thing, but I did ring a while back to unregster, so I called back today "Calling Mumbai" after three such calls and being placed on hold for 12 / 10/ and 13mins for each one, I finally was told to register at the TPS, thanks Chris.
It's bad enough land line calls (already registered) but your mobile should be private to you,
