Nothing on earth can repair split ends. The only solution is to have your hair trimmed.

My friend is an 18 year old student, she is trying find a more cost effective way of doing things rather than going to a salon.

It is true that once you have split ends there is nothing you can do to repair them. If she can afford to keep going to the salon, then the best thing she could do would be to prevent them in the first place... cut down on the straightening irons, invest in a good shampoo and conditioner, and just generally take better care of it..
