As you'll all be aware I don't usually join these debates mainly as I don't want the penny to drop for any southerners, however I've been doing a bit of musical research lately and feel compelled to point out that all the best music comes from the north. We've got or had: Maximo Park, The police, AC/DC, Beatles, Oasis, Smiths, Fall, Mondays, Roses etc etc etc You've got Chas n Dave Anyone else noticed this? PS My list is non -exhaustive and shamelessly starts in the north east

What is it with you Northerners, you have to have a North South devide don't you? The beatles mostly ended up living down south though, Esher, Weybridge etc. where the air is clearer and I can understand that. Ah well, just to appease you paulos:

The Beautiful South (earlier House Martins)
Madness
The Moody Blues
The Small Faces
Ian Dury & the Blockheads
Rolling Stones (possibly the best and still going)

Oh my list is exhaustive!

The beautiful south were ironically from Hull, well north last time I looked
Ooh, I went to a wedding with them once and you may be right now I think about it, I couldn't understand a word they said. That would explain it. Don't think the others did though did they??
Question Author
No, that's why I completely ignored them.
Well I can understand you ignoring good music Mr P. Nothing to be ashamed of me ol mucker.
Question Author
Why did your grasp of English fail you at the wedding Eyeshade?
Question Author
Never said they were good, researching northern connections
Also from the south

The Who, Pink Floyd,Led Zeppelin, The Yardbirds (with the great Clapton, Jeff Beck And Jimmy page,Rod Stewart, The Kinks, and remember the Beatles had to go South To really make it big.
rayspx not a bad list really eh for the South, quite commendable!

Well Paulo, it wasn't my English that failed at the wedding reception, it was the fact that we had to teach them how to eat with a knife and fork and we couldn't understand the "ow doos" and "eh ups".
Mind you you did have Gracie fields and George Formby up North so I guess you are winning really.

Oi Sparx!!! Nowt wrong with a bit of George! :)

Rod Stewart? come on Ray you are kidding aren't you?
You can try as much as you like but the beatles will always be from the north
Hello helli :-) No course there ain't I am just off to pluck me banjo as we speak, gotta go to work now, keep smiling helli xx
Question Author
Also northerners cope with the rock and roll lifestyle much better. Your potential talents like docherty and winehouse screw up spectacularly in public, whereas northerners know how to 'have it' famously treating the lifestyle like having a cup of tea
sounds like a euphemism to me Ray :)
hello paulo, ok scrub rod stewart, although he used to be good live, and of course the beatles will always be from the North, but they all go south to make it, Abbey Road was the studio to record in, be good you lot NO arguing friendly debate only !!!!
errr bez from happy mondays???????
"....feel compelled to point out that all the best music comes from the north."
Just because you can name a lot of bands that originated in the north doesn't mean to say they played the "best music" does it ? In fact half of them played a load of xxxx !
Question Author
Ray, are you aware Rod is Scottish?
well in the east we have The Darkness erm ...... oooh we have Cathy Dennis :-) So there
