Who do some of the women wear red swimsuits and some wear yellow/lime green ones? More a question from the girlfriend than me!

I cant be absolutley sure, because I dont watch it very often but I think it has something to do with the lifeguard school. Maybe the difference between instructors and students, but i dont know which is which.
