What is the car used in sprite advert, where a man and woman pull onto the petrol station to get a drink and pick up a sprite?

My Boyfriend seems to think it is a Ford Escort but also said don't hold him to it, but he is pretty sure.

its a mk2 vauxhall astra mid 80's and the number plate is wrong, hope my knoledge of the pointless helps

I thought it was a mk2 astra, possibly a gte??
