Does anyone else find it a bit harsh that this young lad is considered to be more picturesque with his freckles removed?

You seem to forget, AP, that most of us don't see the ads anyway (but don't tell the Ed!).

Even if we did, we might not see the same ads as you. AB uses tracking cookies to target advertising based upon your web-browsing habits.

Ah, it's probably picked up a few searches I did in Amazon for photography stuff. It's an ad for one of those stupid bits of 'make over' software.
I'd better dump out some cookies. I keep getting ads for lenses from Gumtree too!
Ah, I think I've found the guy:

(If he doesn't appear straight away, use the thumbnail at the bottom left).

While removing his freckles does seem to enhance the image somewhat, I can't say the same for the two women (bottom thumbnail). I preferred them as they were!

That's the one! Poor little soul.
Yes, I preferred those women 'warts and all' too - I've got nothing against 'softening' a portrait subtly in PS or Camera Raw but to completely remove features I thing is a little bit insulting IMO. I remember seeing an official state portrait of Mikhail Gorbachev where they'd totally removed his birthmark - how pompous!
I don't get adverts either, but following the link supplied by Chris, I was particularly impressed by the Avatar (the movie) couple, personally, i'd have kept 'em blue!
