The people who really made it a success were the rest of the comittee, http:// www.lon don2012 ...es/l ocog/se nior-te am/ the thousands of people working for them, the BBC - who have delivered it to our homes and of course the athletes.

He's probably being paid a considerable salary as chairman of Locog and get the best seats at any event he wants to watch, whereas I haven't been able to buy a ticket at a reasonable price. Tickets are still available for the closing ceremony, but at £1,500 each (what ordinary person in the street can afford that?)!
Lord Coe (who is also a Knight) can't be elevated to the title of Duke because that's entirely a hereditary title and (with the exception of members of the Royal family) no such titles are now awarded.
He could only be elevated from KBE to GBE unless he is made a Knight Companion of the Order of the Garter. That title is entirely within the gift of the Queen.
Having briefly served on a committee organising an international sporting event (the World Student Games) with Seb Coe I know that he's a natural leader (but also that he certainly doesn't like 'dissent in the ranks'!). However any such event has to be a team effort and if anyone is to be honoured for organising the 2012 Olympic Games it ought to be someone like Andrew Hunt (Chief Executive of the British Olympic Association) or Muhammad Abdul Bari (from the East London Communities Organisation).
