Before I moved I lived in a town which at one time could boast no less than 10 different food chain stores yet eventually was reduced to a large, expensive Coop. I can understand people shopping there when they have no choice but how they survive in places where there is competition is a mystery to me. Their prices are ridiculous.
Two years ago Sainsbury's opened a small store in our local shopping mall in a space previously occupied by M&S who pulled out. Prices are somewhat higher than in the large Sainsbury's and choice is very limited but they are open early morning to late at night. "This will finish off the Coop (right across the street)", thought I, but no, they are still open.
