audi a3 1.6 engine problems

i have a audi a3 1.6, 1998 with 40,000 miles on the clock [genuine]. the engine keeps miss firing and using water. it has had a new cylinder head and gasgets along with other parts. all done at audi main agents. all done over the last 18 month. every time the car comes back it lasts for about 3 months 3,000 miles and the head gasket simptoms start again.audi are now saying i need a new block as that is what is causing the problem. can the block cause this to happen

Yes, the block can cause these problems, the slightest crack or a liner problem. I would contact price brothers engineering in Bristol for a price, may be a long way from where you are but for the price and decent quality of work could may well make it worth it
