Credit card with rewards

Any ideas of a credit card with decent rewards? I redeemed my Sainsbury reward points last night and bought a bottle of Moet. All I got for spending a flipping fortune all year was a measly bottle of champagne. I thought I might get a credit card and use it for food and petrol all year and get something back. I might have a large purchase soon as well which will bump it up. I`m not sure what sort of rewards you get from credit cards (I`m not interested in airmiles)

I have a Tesco credit card, you can use the vouchers you amass either for shopping, or exchange them x3 or x4 for meals out, trips, etc.

Yes, the rewards are calculated on the value of your purchases. They also send you money off vouchers which they map against the things you buy in Tesco, so can be really relevant. We use it for major spends so as to amass points - the last spend was for Rover's Return vet check-up.

Thanks boxtops. I don`t tend to shop at Tesco. Sainsburys have the monopoly around here so I wouldn`t be exchanging them for shopping. I used to have a Goldfish card (in the days when they were good) so yes ummm, you do get points if you pay off in full.

halifax clarity card - spend £300 per month get £5 reward.(Also good for use abroad - no charges for exchange rates)
barclaycard goldfish - points towards M & S or other vouchers (although the "worth" has dropped considerably)

Thanks sunny-dave. I had a quick glance at the link. Those cards have an annual charge though. They can get lost if they think I`m paying for one! Trouble is, boxy, Nectar points don`t seem to go far at Sainsburys. I`m not sure what I want really. Just some kind of reward (maybe M&S vouchers or something).

I have the Halifax clarity as already mentioned and seem to always get the fiver. With the fiver I also get for banking with them I make £120 a year.

You don't get much back with any of the card these days, though, it's just a bit of a perk. You get something like £1 back for every £100 you spend. It's only a bit of an incentive, not like a savings plan!

Thanks grasscarp. I`m unlikely to spend £300 per month though.
Boxtops - you`re right although my friend has a Virgin Amex and her and her husband spend about £50000 a year on it. (not for much longer as they`re getting divorced). She`s always getting free tickets with it. That`s no good for me though. I might just get the Sainsburys one and get two bottles of Moet next year :-)

I'm not surprised she gets a lot of dibs if they spend that much - they're probably elevated to some sort of Super Spender grade!! I didn't like Amex, I'm not prepared to pay for any credit card annual fee, good benefits or not. I don't pay an annual fee on any of my cards.
