SportsnAll not convinced by Wigans choice to take Marcus Bent on loan. Maybe they misheard and thought theyd got Darren

Another week and its a pleasure to writing another SportsnAll for you to have a gander at. Rather predictably I am going to start by saluting the latest English hero, Stuart Broad. Like most people I saw the score at 114 for 7 against India and my heart sank, thinking that we had sunk back into a slump. Little did I know that some time later when I got the chance to look at the TV screen, wed need 6 to win off 22 balls and that Broad would be leading the fight-back. Awesome stuff. Not forgetting that he took 4 wickets for 51 as well and youve got a true all-round performance. Lets hope that this gives us the confidence to go on and finish series off in style.

The football transfer window is almost shut and teams are falling over themselves to make those last minute deals. Notable figures making a move on the final day are; Danny Mills going down south to Charlton, who in turn have shovelled Amdy Faye to Rangers. Portsmouth have got the deal of the day with the signing of Glen Johnson for something like 3 million, which could strengthen their side even more. From then on the names are slightly less high profile; Lee Bradbury, Curtis Davies, Jason Euell. Ok well maybe their havent been any high profile buys so far, but maybe there will be one last big purchase before the end of the day. Im just hoping that Liverpool dont buy Boumsong, because that would be foolish.

One of the more controversial British triumphs over the last week has been the gold-medal-winning performance of Christine Ohurougu at the World Championships. The 400m runner was suspended for a year for missing three drugs tests. One of the first things she did after returning from the ban was win the gold. From what Ive read of the situation it seems that she might have been better off not competing at the championships. Sometimes it is wise to prevent a furore by staying out of the spotlight, but Ohurougu clearly thought it was worth the risk. She has been quoted saying that youre damned if you do and youre damned if you dont, but she cant really be too surprised by peoples reaction. She is also the first British female track world champion in 14 years, which draws attention to her even more. My view is that she won the award fair and square so let her get on with things. That, however, doesnt mean that she should have been taking part in the games. And I do think the lifetime ban from Olympic selection was the correct decision and it will be interesting to see how she gets on in her efforts to get it overturned.

As the Johnnie Walker Championship gets underway at Gleneagles it reminds me of something that Tiger Woods said a while back. He felt that one of the factors that had helped him top the golf rankings for so long was his fitness work. Now Im not a scratch player, not by a long way, and my hacks at a gold ball are nothing short of comical, but I dont understand this. Golf is a professional sport and people get paid massive sums of money to perform at the highest level. So why is running a few miles every week such a revelation Is it too much for ask for these guys to get on a running machine every now and then to keep themselves in shape Not all of them are guilty of this of course, but there are apparently enough of them to make Tiger feel that fitness gives him an advantage.

And on that note I will end for another week. Feel free to leave comments on the SAB if you disagree with anything Ive said.
