One answer to my question about my missing avatar refers me to your instructions. What comes after the "next ...."? Maybe this is the bit I need but it doesn't appear on my screen.

Thanks Jan 1957 but where do you mean?
Good Day AnswerBankers.

I would like to use this opportunity to thank you very much for your patience. We now have Avatar, for those who want them.

We have decided to use Gravatar's system as it was quick, simple and reliable.

How To Get An Avatar:

First you must sign up to Gravatar.com here: http://en.gravatar.com/site/signup/
(Please use the same email address as you use for The AnswerBank)

Click the link in the email Gravatar sends you.

Create a username and password for Gravatar. These DO NOT have to be the same as your AB username and password.

Log in to Gravatar and select where you want to load an image from:

IF you want to load it from the net, find the picture you want, and its URL, and copy and paste it into the given field.

IF you want to load a picture from your computer, select this option. Click the "Browse" button and find the file you wish to upload to the site. Click "Next".

On the next page crop your image (if you wish) with the small square "handles" on the box within your image. When happy, click "crop and finish".

Rate your Avatar. Answerbank will only accept a "G" rated Avatar.

That is your Gravatar Account Set up. Next...
To show your avatar on AB you need to:

Have been a member for at least 14 days

Have posted 10 valid questions or answers (i.e. not had them removed)

IF you meet these requirments and would like and Avatar you must activate it.

To activate your Avatar please Log in

Click here to edit your user details

At the top of the box labelled "Edit Profile" there should be a tick box. If you want to activate your Avatar, tick the box.

Scroll down and click submit.

You should be good to go!
Where your answer is on this question Indy!!!
If you need to change your email address in your AnswerBank account, please visit the "edit details" page and change it there.

You must use an email address which is not in use on AB already.

Remember, your email address must match in Gravatar and AB.
Also pree control f5 at the end or clear your browser in your own way.

All the above is taken from the guidance at the top of AB pages where it says "Want an Avatar? Click here to find out how to get one!"

Thanks for all this Factor 30 - your help is much appreciated. However I have read all of this before and followed all instructions to the letter. I also satisfy all the criteria laid down in your 2nd message - and the third. I have totally cleared my cache several times now. Gravatar have confirmed my avatar by email - and it's G rated. The correct box is ticked in my profile, and I pressed the Submit button. I've logged out and in again many times since creating my avatar. I now seem to be going round in circles. So frustrating!! Hence my question - what next ......?

Thank you everyone who advised me about my avatar. As you can see it has arrived. I think the problem may have been that I was using it for 2 email addresses (including the one for AB) but the one for AB was not the primary one on Gravatar. I have now made it primary and here I am!!! No one else suggested this could be a problem but, in case this did solve it - rather than just waiting - it might be worth passing on.
I love your avatar Indy
