why fiddlestick's end?

When somebody is thought to be wounded and the doctor comes and says "a fiddlestick's end", what does it mean? and why "fiddlestick"?

'Fiddlesticks' or 'fiddlestick's end' has been used to mean something insignificant or 'nothing-at-all' since the 1600s. I suppose the idea is that - when you've reached the end of anything - you've reached 'no thing'. It can be used dismissively in all sorts of situations and not just medical ones.
