Which Shops . . .

. . . are you most looking forward to re-opening next Monday (or whenever the relevant date is in your part of the UK)?

Will you be queueing to get into Primark to get hold of the latest fashion (or, as it will actually be, last year's fashion, as they try to sell off all their old stock)? Or will you be rushing down to Currys/PC World to browse through the latest technology?

Perhaps it might be service providers that will be at the top of your list of priorities though. Have you already booked your appointment at the hairdresser's or are you simply desperate to get your nails done? Perhaps you've decided that it's now time to get that tattoo that you've always promised yourself?

For me, it's probably the re-opening of charity shops which will be the most welcome, if only so that I can get rid of some of the clutter from my home!

I'm looking forward to the re-opening of outdoor car boot sales, I go to a lovely one on the cliffs above the beach at Seaham. Other than that, I'm steering clear, along with beer gardens and hairdressers.

I have booked my haircut, and made an appointment for my nails. I don't think we have enough shops left in the town to get excited about going.
Like you I need a visit to the charity shop to take all my Mum's decent clothes that have been sitting here since she died last year.

I won't be rushing to the shops on Monday either, Bobbi. I'm sure that there will be massive queues for stores like Primark. I'll probably leave it for a few days, until things are a bit quieter, before going shopping. (That might not apply to the three charity shops in our little town though. If they re-open on Monday, I might visit them to see if I can find any bargains).

Yup, the return of car boot sales is something that I'd welcome too, APG - but only if the weather gets a bit warmer ;-)

Finding a home for someone's possessions after they've died is never a particularly pleasant task, Ubasses, but I'm sure that you'll b glad to get it done.

I'd welcome this longer hair were it still the dark brown it was until my 40s - Ozzy Osborne style. As it is, it's almost snow white and the slightest breeze has me looking as if i've escaped a lunatic asylum.

Do you know I’ve got so used to this way of life now that it seems strange to even think about going to the different shops, but I guess I need to take a load of stuff to the charity shop like ubasses, and mr smow is desperate for the barbers to open. Apart from that.......

I can honestly say I've not really missed the shops, I prefer to walk round a good market when I can find one. I did however walk round Debenhams when they first said they were closing down, but guess what, every thing they normally sell ( original Stuff) had been taken away and the shop had been stocked up with cheap rubbish.
I've known other big brand shops do this especially January sales.

There’s only so many Pyjamas and knickers you can buy at Primy but I bet there’s Qs outside on Monday, Marksies is where I like to get them from anyway and because they sell food, I’ve been buying stuff as I’ve always done

Yes, TC44. Most 'sales' are usually 'special buy' stuff these days, rather than 'end of season clearances', etc. That's possibly because it's simpler for big chain stores to create space in their storerooms, and to get money in their bank accounts, by simply selling all of their old stock to firms like T K Maxx, rather than offering it at a discount to their customers.

Good markets are hard to find but I still enjoy looking around them when I can. A problem for me though is that these days they're no longer selling cheap stuff, simply because they can't compete with supermarkets. So they're now all selling things like bread from 'artisan bakeries', at three or four pounds for a small loaf. As I'm a mean, stingy, impecunious so-and-so, I'm not always keen on paying such prices!

I'm really looking forward to going into Peacocks at the weekend, I need some basics plus a bunch of cheap clothes to cheer me up.
