Afternoon,

In an attempt to get more people to sign up to AB, we're going to try out a prompt for users who aren't signed in or signed up.

Non-members, and those not logged in will be displayed a prompt to sign in - this should happen on:

1. The second page they visit
2. Only once in 24hours or in a session (i.e. if you clear your cache you'll see it again)

You should be able to click away, or close it, if you don't want to log in (but if you do, you can login from the prompt).

Let me know if you run into any problems with it.

We hope to go live with it this evening. More info to come.

will you be able to tell how many people are incited to join, by this reminder, Ed?
why would you want to remind existing members to log in, Ed? I often come just for a look - but it's only when I decide to post a reply that I get the log-in reminder. That's seems fine as it is?

Hope so Boxtops.
I am a grazer & dont want unnecessary messages - I will just get irritated.

Just because i am not signed in doesnt mean I dont see your precious ads - and i still wont click on them!

"I am a grazer & dont want unnecessary messages - I will just get irritated."

You appear to be logged in - if you leave it that way you won't see a message.

"Just because i am not signed in doesnt mean I dont see your precious ads - and i still wont click on them!"

This is nothing to do with ads, this is to do with encouraging regular "visitors" to get involved in the site by becoming "members".

And frankly, if it doesn't work we'll remove it, so don't fret.
Hey chuck, how did you do that, can we now embed pictures?
Just logged out, cleared my cache (in FF) and poked around a few pages, no pop up.
I'll try it in chrome and get back to you.
Nah, the Ed must have embedded it for me.
and it was hilarious too

"and it was hilarious too"

:) I hope the changes don't actually impact your enjoyment of the site - let's see how the numbers turn out after a week or two (and the level of hatred I am held in by the end of it!)

Nope, nothing in Chrome either. Has it gone live yet?

WyeDyed - we've not gone live yet, hence the last line of my original post.
Doh!
[shuffles feet and looks towards ground]

It should be live now. Let's see how we go.
Looks OK to me - just one pop-up to clear if you don't want to login

So Ed, is this new thing working? Are there more window-lickers now, and are they actually registering?
I never 'log-out' from AB and things such as Adverts and Pop-ups are items which I never see when re-entering the site.

Al.
